The Air Max series began in 1987 with Tinker Hatfield's Air Max 1 – the first shoe with visible Air cushioning in the heel. Subsequent models, including the Air Max 90, 95, and 97, further developed this technology and became streetwear icons. Air Max shoes combine the comfort of cushioning with a distinctive, sporty look.

Air Max 1, 90, and 95 – how do they differ?

Air Max 1 – the lowest and most classic silhouette, good for everyday wear
Air Max 90 – wider sole, more pronounced Air cushion, and a sportier look
Air Max 95 – layered upper inspired by body anatomy and an Air cushion also in the forefoot

Collaborations often change the materials: Nike Air Max 1 x Pattafocuses on suede and wavy details, Off-White adds transparent panels and signature lettering, while the Air Max 95 from Corteiz is based on contrasting, dark colors. When choosing, it is therefore worth looking not only at the model, but also at what materials the given pair is made of.

Size, care, and purchase safety

Nike Air Max usually fit standard Nike sizing, but the Air Max 95 can be slightly narrower, so for a wide foot, consider half a size up. Clean suede collaborations with a dry brush, and protect the Air cushion from sharp edges – a punctured one cannot be repaired.
